Prepared for the weather?

Post  new_skool91 on Sat Apr 24, 2010 11:25 am

Is everybody prepared for the weather tonight and tomorrow, and for the severe weather season? Everybody should have a disaster plan, and if you're fortunate, an equipped tornado shelter in this region! We don't now, but if we build on our next move in 3-5 years, I surely want one built into a function area of the house!

It looks like we are free and clear from the threat of tornadoes, but there are still some significantly strong thunderstorms in the area that have caused some damage. Hopefully not too many people lost power; there are some areas around town where the power is out. It looks like there are around 6500 customers without power at this point.

We had one little brown out that only lasted about 15 seconds, so we were fortunate. Our power line are underground in this area, but we get relatively frequent brown outs (probably every 1-2 months on average) even when the weather isn't bad. I figured it was because we were initially new construction, and it did slow down once most of the construction concluded, but not completely. They are building the St. Jude house a few blocks over, so I wonder if the construction in that area is affecting us? I suspect that it's on the same grid.

Enough to make you want to get one of those cool new propane-powered generators?

Lol, no. The power would need to be out for a couple of days before I would consider buying one of those things. Ive heard they are basically bombs just waiting to explode. Shocked

It also looks like the people north of Memphis is Tipton county got it pretty bad, and I suspect that in West Memphis and all of eastern Arkansas, which is low-lying, probably has a lot of standing water right now!

Nice second weekend of the month, but they are talking about a "tornado outbreak" starting tomorrow, though it looks like it will be 6-7 hours west of us, in eastern OK, western AR. Not to wish it bad on them, but I hope it doesn't drift east!
